Changing My Lifestyle

Change 1: Low-Carb Meal

Change has swept over me, sparking a newfound zest for life and prompting me to realize that a transformation is essential for a brighter, healthier future. Over the past 7 to 8 months, I’ve embarked on a journey—a “diet,” if you will—not just any ordinary diet, but a quest fueled by fervor and determination. My motivations are shared by many: a deep-seated desire for vitality and an enhanced sense of well-being. This sudden, yet profoundly essential “Diet” symbolizes more than a mere change in eating habits; it’s a doorway to untold possibilities, a prelude to a life filled with promises I never dared to dream before. Here I am now embracing the change.

As I relaxed by myself, it hit me out of nowhere. This journey I’m on isn’t just about the now; it’s a whole lifetime thing. Let me be honest: I used to think I was just on a temporary “diet” kick, but that’s not it at all. It’s more like I’ve gone through a total transformation—a big, lasting change in how I live!

Change With Intermittent Fasting

Change 2. Intermittent Fasting

Then something else fell into my thought processor: some might say Jesus was on a “diet.” When I say diet, I mean abstaining from something. Jesus did it when He was led into the wilderness by the Holy Ghost to be tempted. Now, after His 40 days in the wilderness, He hungered as it says in the Bible (Luke 4:1-13). I went from eating everything to consuming little to nothing a day. What diet? Keto; I dived straight into it. I didn’t research anything or think about what it might cause or the effectiveness of it. I had to change to a low carb later on cause staying in Ketosis was not working.

So, as with anything, there is a struggle at first. Over time I continued to grow. Learning how to fast for hours before I ate (Intermittent Fasting) anything when I would wake up. As time passed, I started to get excited about this “diet” ending. I was thinking I could get my life back after this. I didn’t even realize I was setting myself up for failure. If I didn’t come out of this “Diet” mindset, I would be right back where I started.

Change 3: Acceptance

Accepting Change Differently

If Jesus would’ve sinned, we would be right back where we started. Although I struggled with hunger (when I say I was hungry, I was HUNGRY!) It was important to keep going. Not allowing myself to return to my old habits. Unfortunately, I was still in the temporary mindset, trying to stay committed. I do believe that God set me straight concerning this matter.

I have been praying for things to change for so long. At times, I thought God might answer me in one way. He turns around and answers me in another. I took this lesson to my natural and spiritual state. God is not a “diet” that you start and can’t wait to stop so you can go back. Doing whatever you want to do again. He’s not a temporary lifestyle. It’s a forever relationship that should grow into something more rooted and meaningful. I could have been left in that state of mind and came out the same way I went in. I thank God for not allowing me to stay stagnant. 

FerVent Change

Change Fervently

Now, after I accepted the reality that this is not a “diet” (something temporary). This is something that I need to grow with. This is something I need to be familiar with and make my everyday life. It wasn’t until then that the struggle ended. I could walk past cookies and cake and not say, “I can’t wait to enjoy you again” 😂. So, it’s all about changing your mind and allowing yourself to submit to new standards.

The pantry went from looking like so-called happiness to actual happiness. I’m excited to declare my new lifestyle. Treating my body as a temple and appreciating what God has given me is my new goal. Now recently, I was reading a book by Priscilla Shirer called Fervent. She talks about numerous things in the book, but one thing that stood out was becoming or regaining your focus. Toward the end of each topic, you had the assignment to write out your prayers. She explained the strategy on how to do it. Now, I’ve noticed the title; how the letter “V” happens to be capitalized. This made me think that this is a Venting session as well. Sometimes, that’s all a prayer is. 

Acceptance of PCOS

I’ll naturally begin talking to God about it whenever I get mad, frustrated, or sad. I write many of my feelings down; this is the easiest way to express myself. I highly recommend journaling or keeping a diary; it can help in many ways. This book has inspired me to do things differently and see things from a new perspective. I’ve also been reading Healing PCOS by Amy Medling. Another excellent read for anyone struggling with PCOS or who may know someone who is; I highly recommend it.

If you’re anything like I used to be, battling with dieting or being motivated to begin one. Merely find your WHY! Why do you want to change? That’s what Amy Medling talks about in Healing PCOS. Sometimes you might need a good reason to do it; it could be anything you currently confront. Your reasons are what encourage you to keep going. Moreover, they help you when nothing wants to go right in your life at that present moment. 

Your “Why”: Lifestyle

Once you find what encourages you to get up. Whether it is your kids, health, or want to be and feel better. Suddenly, it will get easier. Furthermore, you can allow your wings to spread after the approval of something new and a change in your life. I don’t feel guilty either if I choose to indulge in something that’s not too healthy. I like to think that I’m treating myself. The key is being mindful of what I eat now and how much of it. Although we often don’t like it, nor do we like to acknowledge the sole reality that we need it. We can all agree that a lot of self reflecting can do much good.

Therefore, with that said, I believe there is a significant difference between a diet and a lifestyle. One seems temporary, while the other is something that transforms your whole perspective. Now, I am not undermining dieting in any way. I’m simply sharing what worked for me and what wasn’t going to work for me. It’s up to you to want it and take that leap of faith. Now, with any form of dieting, get professional input and pray on it yourself to make the right decision! I hope I was able to encourage somebody with all of this. I pray your struggle with your new lifestyle will get easier.
